Pat Toh makes performances that unfolds at the intersection of theatre, dance and the live arts. Pat works with the mechanics, functionality and processes within the corporeal in order to strip the performance of decorative elements reducing it to the plain act of physical labour. She centers her practice on the body as site, resource and medium to expose the materiality in politics. She draws from fitness culture, sports regimes and training protocols to contemplate on the effects, remnants and trauma of body and ideology. A Shell-NAC Arts Scholarship recipient, she holds a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts (Acting) from the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (Australia), and a Masters of Arts from the National Institute of Education (Singapore). She has received residency support from The Saison Foundation (Japan), Geothe-Institut Singapore and was associate member at Dance Nucleus, a space for independent dance makers in Singapore. Her directorial debut Pretty Things was nominated for Production of the Year, Best Director and Best Ensemble in Singapore’s Life! Theatre Awards (2012). Her works have been presented in M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival (Singapore), Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Liveworks Festival of Experimental Arts (Australia), CROSS Festival (Italy), Indonesia Dance Festival, NDA International Dance Festival (Korea), and HDX Dance Exchange (Hong Kong).
