Off the Chart

Off the Chart is a live measurement drawing of the body against the  against Vitruvius’s canon of proportions navigating and negotiating its parameters with precise principles of squares and circles. A sculptural like performance that unfold over time the perfect geometry of point, line and angle in the body.

Notes from Leonardo da Vinci
In the human body the central point is naturally the navel,
if a man be placed flat on his back with his hands and feet extended and a pair of compass centered at his navel,
the fingers and toes of his 2 hands and feet will touch the circumference of a circle.
The human body yields a circular outline so too a square figure can be found from it.
For if we measure the distance from the soles of the feet to the top of the head, then apply
that measure to the outstretched arms the breadth will be found to be same at the height, just as to be found in plane surfaces that are perfectly square.

Made in collaboration with Andy Lim. This work was first commissioned by Dance Nucleus Vector #1 and has been invited to performed at National Gallery Singapore in Antony Gormley sculpture Horizon Field.
